This is a Full Day (10-12 Hours) that starts early morning from your hotel to Maputo and back.
Highlights: City Tour of Maputo, Central & Fish Markets, visit the Polana Hotel and a drive along the “Avenida de Marginal” (palm-lined avenue along the beachfront), lunch at a local restaurant for a Seafood Lunch Extravaganza (own expense)
After lunch, we make a stop at the local craft and curio market before returning back home.
Mozambique is a fascinating country, bearing the scars of civil war yet harbouring a vibrant culture and intense natural beauty. We depart after breakfast at your lodge/hotel travelling into Mozambique via the Lebombo border post. We’ll have a short city tour on our way to lunch. Indulge on lobster, prawns, fresh fish or chicken accompanied by Portuguese beer or wine on the patio overlooking the sea.
Itinerary:
Guests will be collected from their accommodation establishments early in the morning and head towards the Lebombo border post.
Enter Mozambique after border crossing formalities and head towards Maputo, app 1 hours’ drive away.
Upon reaching the outskirts of Maputo a stop will be made at a local coffee shop where clean restrooms are available.
Head towards the centre of town and proceed with a Maputo City Tour, making frequent stops and doing some light walking along the way (hats and closed shoes recommended).
Depending on the size of the group and the day of the week, expect to see any of the following: Town Hall & Catholic Cathedral, Steel House & Botanical Gardens, Fort & Train Station, Woodcraft Market (only on Saturdays), Fresh Produce & Fish Markets.
Next stop will be for lunch (own expense) at the famous Costo Do Sol restaurant. To get there the Tour will travel along the “Avenida de Marginal”, the scenic palm-lined avenue along the beachfront!
Guests will return to South Africa late afternoon.
Please note: PASSPORTS ESSENTIAL! International visitors need a VISA to enter Mozambique which at the current rate of USD 90pp (own expense) is obtainable from the border and is payable in either USD or ZAR (South African Rand). South Africans don’t need a VISA, however, there is a fee (border tax of +/- R17pp) payable in cash at the border (own expense).
